Muharram Al Haraam

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa RahmatUllah

Muharram Al Haraam

The word "Muharram" carries the meanings of forbidden, prohibited, esteemed, and deserving of respect.
It is one of the four months mentioned by Allah سبحانہ و تعالٰی in the Quran:

"Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them..."
[Al Tawbah: 36]

These four sacred months are Muharram, Rajab, Dhul-Qa'dah, and Dhul-Hijjah

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ ) referred to this month as "Shahr Allah Al-Muharram" (the month of Allah, Muharram).

Actions To Be Performed in this Month:-
🔹 Maintain the sanctity of others' lives, wealth, honor, and dignity

During the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ ) said: "Your blood, your wealth, and your honor are as sacred to one another as this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this city of yours."
[Sahih Bukhari]

🔹 Particularly protect yourself from sins in this month.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ ) said in a Hadith e Qudsi:
Allah سبحانہ و تعالٰی said:
"O My servants! I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another."
[Sahih Muslim]

Committing sins in these sacred months is more severe than in other months. These months have special virtue and superiority, so it is necessary to respect them.

🔹Respect the Dignity of Others

Because the sanctity of life, wealth, and honor is associated with this month, it is important to show respect for others, refrain from backbiting, slander, and suspicion.
Playing with the dignity of others leads to evil consequences in this world and the Hereafter.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ ) said:

"A Muslim is he from the mischief of whose tongue and hand the other Muslims are safe, and a Momin is he on whose account people do not feel a threat to their life and property."
[Musnad Ahmad]

🔹 Fulfill the Rights of Others

This month is for fulfilling the rights of others, whether they are small or big, fulfilling these rights is important.

Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah سبحانہ و تعالٰی be pleased with them both) mentioned some major sins, including:
🔹 Not paying the Mehr (dowry) after marriage.
🔹 Employing someone and not paying their wages.
🔹 Killing someone without a just cause.

🔹 Protecting the Wealth of Others

No Muslim should take anything from another Muslim without their consent, even if it is something small, as it carries punishment.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ ) said:
"Whoever unjustly takes a piece of land from someone, Allah سبحانہ و تعالٰی will make Hellfire obligatory for him, and Paradise will be forbidden for him, even if it is a stick of Arak (a tooth-cleaning twig)."
[Sahih Muslim]

🌴 "The best among you are those whom, when seen, remind you of Allah, and the worst among you are those who go about with calumnies and cause enmity and division among friends and seek flaws in the innocent."

Therefore, pay more attention to maintaining good family relations, connecting and not severing relationships during this month.
