SEERAT UN NABI (part4)

Seerat-un-Nabi ﷺ

Episode No. 4

Seerat-un-Nabi ﷺ

> Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant? Did He not make their plot go astray? Allah sent upon them flocks of birds (Ababeel) which threw pebbles at them. Thus Allah made them like eaten straw.

Surah Al-Feel (1-5)

The incident of Ashab-ul-Feel happened in 571 AD - the year of the blessed birth of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Abyssinian Christian ruler of Yemen, Abraha bin Ashram, marched towards Makkah with 60,000 soldiers and 13 elephants to demolish the Kaaba.

*Who was Abraha?* He was a commander sent by the King of Abyssinia to avenge the oppression of Christians by the Jewish ruler Yusuf Zu Nuwas. He later became the independent King of Yemen.

His plan was:

1. To spread Christianity in Arabia

2. To take control of Arab trade

For this, he built a grand church in Sana'a called *"Al-Qullais" (Ecclesia)* and announced: _"I will not stop until I divert the Hajj of Arabs from Kaaba to Ecclesia."_

Enraged, a Bedouin Arab defiled the church. In anger, Abraha swore to demolish the Kaaba and marched in late 570 AD. He camped at *Al-Mughammis* near Makkah and looted cattle, including 200 camels of Hazrat Abdul Muttalib (grandfather of the Prophet ﷺ).

Abraha sent a message: _"I have not come to fight you, I have come to demolish this House. If you don't fight, I will not harm you."_

Hazrat Abdul Muttalib replied: *"We have no strength to fight Abraha. The Kaaba is the House of Allah, if He wills, He will save His House."*

When Abdul Muttalib met Abraha, Abraha was so impressed by his noble personality that he came down from his throne to sit beside him.

Abraha asked: "What do you want?"

Abdul Muttalib said: "Return my 200 camels."

Abraha was shocked: "You ask for your camels but say nothing about the Baitullah which is the foundation of your religion?"

Hazrat Abdul Muttalib replied with great faith:

*"I am the owner of the camels, so I am asking for them. As for this House, its Owner is Allah, He Himself will protect it."*

Abraha arrogantly said: "Even your Allah cannot save it from me now."

Abdul Muttalib said: *"This matter is between you and Allah. This is His House and till today He has not allowed anyone to overpower it."*

He then took his camels and returned to Makkah.

*To be continued, InshaAllah...*
